PRODUCT FAQ’s

Why us?

My Own's parent company has been manufacturing cosmetics and over-the-counter drug products for over 50 years. With over 20,000 formulas in our files, our R & D chemists created these products using the knowledge we have mastered.  We have our own manufacturing facility which operates under FDA Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's).  We have an extensive Quality Control department which checks and tests all materials which go into your products as well as your finished product before we ship it to you.  We test all products for microbiology to make sure that the product we send you is initially free of microbes.

What if I want a different Quantity:

We offer products in specific increments from 100 to 500 units.  These increments are not changeable.  See each individual product page for the quantities offered.  If you want quantities greater than 500 units, please send us an e-mail  with product details and quantities for a quote.

What is the shelf life of the products?

Our products may have a shelf life as long as 1-3 years.    Most products will have some changes over time depending on the fragrance selected and the storage conditions.  Some fragrances may turn yellower, pinker, or browner over time.  This doesn't affect the performance of the product, just the color.  Some products may thin or thicken over time or if they get hot.  It is impossible to test all customized combinations of ingredients so we cannot guarantee shelf life of any specific combination.

Are your products paraben free?

All of our products are paraben free.

Are your products sulfate free?

All of our products are sulfate free.  Sulfates are a class of cleansing agents that clean well and give good foam.  Non-sulfate cleansers are considered to be milder by most people.  None of our cleansing products contian sulfates.

There may be other materials in our products that have the word "sulfate" as part of the name.  Behentrimonium methosulfate is a material that is used in hair care and skin care.  This is NOT a sulfate cleansing agent.  This is a hair & skin conditioning material that works in a completely different way and is not drying.

Are your products alcohol free?

There are 2 types of alcohols.  The first category we call "Drying" alcohols like Rubbing Alcohols and Ethyl Alcohols.   We do not add any "Drying" alcohols directly to any of our products.  However, we have 2 products which contain Witch Hazel water that has a small amount of a drying alcohol as part of the solution.  These 2 products are the Calming Aftershave Balm and the Balancing Tonic.  The amount of this drying alcohol in these products is below 1% which means it will not cause any drying to the skin.

The second category we call  "Fatty" alcohols which are really an emollient vegetable wax that just happens to have the word "alcohol" as part of the legal name.  These include items such as "Cetyl Alcohol" and "Stearyl Alcohol".  You see these in creams, lotions, and conditioners.  They are actually moisturizing and give the skin and hair a silky, smooth feel.  They do not cause any drying at all . . .just the opposite, they add moisture.  Per the FDA, products that contain these "fatty" alcohols may still be labeled as "Alcohol Free".  You can find out more information from the FDA here.

Are your products phthalate free?

Phthalates are ingredients in manufactured fragrances.   We have over 45 fragrances in stock.  Most of them are phthalate free but some of them do contain phthalates.   The ones that contain phthaalates are listed on the fragrance pages.   The "limited" stock fragrances may contain phthalates.  If it doesn't say under the description of the fragrance that it is "Phthalate-Free", it probably contains phthalates.

Are your products "All Natural"?

While we do use many natural materials in our products, they are NOT "All Natural" or "100% Natural".  Cosmetic products require a certain amount of synthetic materials in order to make a quality product.  These types of materials include preservatives so that your product doesn't become contaminated.  Hence, these claims may not be made for any of our products.   You can find out more information from the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) here.

Are your products certified organic?

Organic rules are quite rigid and specific.  We use a lot of organic oils, butters, and botanicals in our products to give you the highest quality ingredients at an affordable price.  Many of the ingredients which are needed in cosmetic products are not available as organic.  Hence, companies add high percentages of organic oils and/or botanicals to meet the required percentages.  By having to add such high percentages, the products are often greasy, sticky, and unstable and don't perform well.  My Own Hair Bath Body tries to balance this by using some organic materials in combination with approved non-organic cosmetic materials to make a high quality product with outstanding performance.

Are your products "No More Tears"? "Non-Sensitizing"?  "Hypoallergenic"? "Non-Irritating"?

These are product claims that needs to be supported by expensive clinical testing.  We have not done testing on all the possible combinations of products, goodies & fragrances.  Hence, any of these statements/claims should not be made for your products.  If you wish to have more information regarding testing for any of these types of claims, please contact us and we can send you a referral.
